Two of the top women’s fighters go at it at the top of this week’s Ultimate Fighting Championship card, as the promotion heads to the Mile High City on Saturday night. The main event is a Women’s Flyweight bout, as Rose Namajunas faces off with Tracy Cortez. The fight was originally scheduled to see Namajunas take on Maycee Barber.
This is Namajunas’ second fight as a Flyweight. She made her debut last September in a loss to Manon Florot, but came back this past March to beat Amanda Ribas by decision. It snapped a two-match losing streak for the American, as Namajunas lost her last Strawweight bout, losing the championship to Carla Esparaza. The two-time Strawweight champ has a career record of 12-6 with seven wins by submission.
Cortez is a veteran in the mixed martial arts game, but she has never challenged for a title. Yet, she is one of the most consistent female fighters in the promotion. The former Bantamweight has won 11 straight fights, including all five in her UFC career. With a career record of 11-1, Cortez has won all but two of her fights by decision.
The bout is one of three Women’s Flyweight fights on Saturday, as Viviane Araujo and Jasudavicius meet in the prelims, as do Luana Santos and Mariya Agapova.
